ABOUT

Oshawa Chapter Supporting Durham Region

The Oshawa Chapter of Durham Region was initially formed in February 2015 based out of Oshawa, ON and is one of many 100 Women Who Care within Canada. We are proud to say that we are hoping to grow a large chapter within the community.

Our first meeting was held on April 13, 2015 at 7:30pm at Kedron Dells Golf Club at 2400 Ritson Road North. It was an amazing turnout for our first meeting within the community. We are hoping that with a donation of $100 from each member during each quarterly meeting, we will have a large impact in aiding local charities and centers with their funding. SPLIT memberships (between 2-4 people) are also available upon request.

Julie Kobrynovich, one of the Founders of the Durham Region Chapter, knew immediately upon learning about the 100 Women organization that this was it. Julie’s brother and father are part of the Greater Saint John‘s Chapter based out of Saint John, New Brunswick. “As soon as I heard of the organization and its purpose, I knew I had to be a part of it.”

Julie knew she couldn’t do it alone and approached Angela Longley, a close friend. Angela’s response was “Sounds like a great thing to me. I love the idea!”. We originally were not sure how many people would be interested, however it was worth the chance to take.

History

The first 100 Women Who Care group was formed in November 2006 by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan.  At their first one-hour meeting, this 100 Women Who Care group raised $10,000 to buy 300 new baby cribs for an organization in their city!  In total there are now approximately 47 chapters in the US and 5 in Canada – now that’s impressive! A few examples of Canadian Chapters - Halifax, NS launched in March 2013, Saint John, NB in 2013 and Whitby/Ajax, ON in January 2015 and now us!

Together – This is Where the It All Happens:

  • Find and bring together 100 (or more) women in Durham Region who care about local community causes and who are committed to community service

  • One hour meetings every four months

  • Select a local charity or not-for-profit organization for donation together as a chapter

  • Each write a $100 cheque to the selected organization and watch how the group’s commitment turns into approx. $10,000+ donation depending on membership count

  • Do that four times a year ($400 total) and witness how $40,000 can improve the lives of our neighbours when placed in the hands of deserving grass-roots agencies working to serve the local community

If you:

  • are committed to helping others in our community of Oshawa and throughout Durham Region and surrounding areas, but are stretched for time;

  • want to be part of a powerful group of local women making an immediate, direct and positive effect on the lives of our neighbours;

  • want 100% of your donation to go directly to local charity, or;

  • want to learn more about the many worthy community service programs and organizations servicing Durham Region.

Please feel free to send us an e-mail at DR100Women@gmail.com if you are interested in becoming a member of this newly formed chapter.
